Artist’s Home
This 50’s property in North London had undergone several refurbishments over the years, but in an ad-hoc fashion; it had turned into a house with a disjointed internal arrangement and an unsatisfactory connection to the garden. Our client, who is an artist and an art collector, wanted to achieve a better flow between the internal spaces and out to the rear terrace and the garden beyond. They also wanted a home that reflected their personality and that could accommodate their extensive art collection and extended family.
We started with replacing an awkward rear extension with a more contemporary addition, while increasing the footprint slightly and introducing full-scale glazing for a better connection to the rear terrace and garden. The rear terrace was rearranged to make better use of it. New materials were introduced to the external façade, for an improved visual appearance.
Internally, the layout was completely rearranged, focused on the display of the art collection, but the jewel of this home is the artist’s studio on the top floor, with its abundance of natural light, which provides an ideal environment for our client’s work.
