The Clockhouse

This Grade II listed building was once a coach house and, having gone through a few reincarnations, now it houses a small hotel which is part of The Newt estate in Somerset. The property has a clock, with its own housing, which was fully refurbished back to working order. The accommodation comprises four en-suite bedrooms and a double-height lounge with a kitchenette and a large fireplace.

Our involvement in this project was extensive, having to design and oversee the full refurbishment and ensure compliance with building and conservation requirements. A lot of the original features were preserved, and there were a few new additions too, like the large roof light above the lounge area which brought in a lot of natural light.

Locally sourced Lias stone was used in the common areas and the bathrooms, and the fireplace stack was built out of local Hadspen stone.
