Honeywick
Our clients approached us about the renovation of this Grade II listed property because they needed improved levels of accommodation and amenity more suited to a contemporary living.
The property comprised a main house with two side extensions and a barn with a lean-to garage, which provided additional accommodation. Though the main house needed only a modest alteration to the layout, there was no connection to the barn, so we provided that by way of a glazed ambulatory.
As well as this, the existing extensions on either side of the house needed to be rebuilt to both balance the symmetry established in the main house and retain a subservient relationship, whilst using materials that either matched the existing or were appropriate in establishing a contemporary/historic balance.
The new kitchen in the south wing has now become the focus of the home. The glazed ambulatory connects it to the barn, which has been extended and now has large glazed fenestration in order to benefit from the southerly aspect and surrounding landscape.
Honeywick received a Commendation from the William Stansell Somerset Historic Building Awards 2019.
